Leeds food news: Welcome to a jam-packed August 2016

Foodies Festival at Ripley Castle

One of the biggest food festivals in Yorkshire comes back to Ripley Castle from the 19th to the 21st of August and we have the privilege of once again being invited as an official blogger. This means we will of course let you know the ins and outs of this fab event!

If you want a taste of what it was all about last year, you can read all about it here as well as having a chuckle at an impromptu Rosemary Shrager singalong that took place during one of the demonstrations!

Suffice to say the range of treats on offer to try and buy will be fantastic, the amazing chef Steph Moon will be there along with many other talented chefs and foodies and most importantly the relaxed vibe, on-site music and warm welcome will keep the whole family entertained for the whole day. If you want to know a little more, check out our full preview here.

Most importantly of course, keep an eye on our blog as we will soon have a pair of tickets to give away for this wonderful day out!

Where is it: Ripley Castle, Ripley, HG3 3AY

Cost: Full details are available here but a one day ticket starts at £10 for an adult.

North Leeds Food Festival

Offering live music, a free trial of Rugby Tots, as well as a promise to showcase the very best of food in Leeds, the North Leeds Food Festival is shaping up to be an exciting event between 19th – 21st August.

While big names may not be on the cards, great local produce and traders will be there, as well as the likes of Bangwok offering street food. This should be an event that has something for everyone, especially those with little ones.

Where is it: Princes Ave, Roundhay Park, Leeds LS8 2ER

Cost: Adult early bird tickets start at £2, with under 14s £1.

Quiet time at Sous Le Nez

We’re reliably informed that August is a quieter month for the normally very busy Sous Le Nez, so why not take advantage of this quiet spell before it all ramps up again in September by trying out their menu du soir after work on a weekday between 5:30pm and 7pm or between 12am and 2pm (as well as 5:30pm and 7pm on a Saturday).

Given that this three course feast is high-quality and comes with a half bottle of wine, it’s a bit of a steal at £27.95 if you are looking to treat yourself or impress that lucky someone!

The StrEat Food and Family Fun Festival

Taking place in Valley Gardens in Harrogate from the 26th – 29th August (from noon until 10:30pm) this event is free to attend and has some real treats for foodies. With the hugely talented Jim Key taking on a field kitchen to offer breakfast, lunch, Sunday roast and dinner (as well as picnics!) you can try some of the exquisite fine dining he does at Wild (check out our review here) that will no doubt get you craving the chance to try his food again.

As well as this, there’s a range of activities for families, including spotting real life hedge men and a SplatOMatic machine! For adults there is a Craft Bar Teepee, a range of great street food and some fabulous foodie traders for treats to take home.

10 years of Wagamama Leeds

Wagamama on Park Row is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. We’re heading down there on Wednesday to help them celebrate and will be bringing you a full review of what the chain is up to at the moment. If you haven’t been for a while, why not head down for a reminder of why this is a chain that has stuck around in Leeds and the UK in general.

And finally…

Red Hot World Buffet

We aren’t exactly huge fans of Red Hot World Buffet, but news of any restaurant failing is never nice, so keep an eye on the Leeds branch of the chain as it is currently in talks to be sold/re-branded and has survived the initial cull of the chain’s entry into administration.
