Leeds food news: Pizza, cocktails, and Sunday roasts as February gets underway

Flying Pizza celebrates 40 years in Roundhay

San Carlo’s Flying Pizza celebrates its 40th anniversary this month. Having been tainted by association with Jimmy Savile, this restaurant is trying to continue to distance itself from that era by celebrating what it does best: the food.

There’s a brand new terrace with a retractable roof that should allow us to bask in the sun on those rare summer days with a pizza and a cocktail, so it’s worth a visit over the coming months.

Harvey Nichols Cocktail Masterclass: Drinks To Fall In Love With

Harvey Nichols are hosting two cocktail masterclasses this month, one on the 3rd Feb and one on the 17th Feb, both at 6pm. The masterclass explores the best base components for a cocktail, building up to the chance to mix your own cocktail.

Some of the cocktails on offer this month will include a Pink Pornstar Martini. Tickets cost £30 per person, or £45 including a three-course meal in the Fourth Floor Cafe.

The Leeds Cocktail Experience Part Two

Showcasing the eclectic spirit of the Leeds bar scene, March 3rd sees the return of the Leeds Cocktail Experience. 18 of the city’s bars will send members of their team to the event, including Pintura, Manahatta, and The Alchemist. This promises to be a great night out, and if we weren’t going to be in Japan at the time, we’d be heading down!

This year you can buy VIP tickets, limited to 200, that will help you beat the queue and get a glass of Moet on arrival.

Tickets cost £15, with VIP tickets costing £25. Both tickets get you two drinks, and you can purchase more on the night at £5 each.

Shears Yard Create New Slingsby Gin Tasting Menu

If you like your gin and you like your food, why not check out Shears Yard’s five-course dinner and gin cocktail pairing menu, created by head chef Jamie Clinton and the folk at artisan distillery Slingsby.

The menu will feature such cracking dishes as venison loin cured in Slingsby Gin botanicals with Heritage beetroot, blood orange, and linseed cracker.

To book, head to the Shears Yard website and click on 7pm on 22nd February.

Restaurant 92 Start Sunday Lunch

One of our favourite Harrogate restaurants, Restaurant 92, will, starting on 5th February, offer the option of a Sunday roast. After our previous experiences of eating here, we are pretty confident that roasts at Restaurant 92 will be done properly, and can’t wait to try it out for ourselves!

Tip for the month…

Get yourself down to the Old Granary Pierogi to sample some Polish delicacies. Full review to follow soon on the blog…
