Far be it from me to explain the hows and what to do’s when it comes to cooking a festive ham but there’s no doubt that a festive ham is one of the true foodie delights to be celebrated during this time of year.
The best hams will be sourced from a top quality butcher, but hams have been made affordable through discount supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, making them available to anyone who fancies one!
Of course, a roast ham is a very versatile cut to enjoy hot or cold. This is one of its great strengths, as it takes on the flavour of whatever coating you choose e.g. a honey glaze or a soak in some clove infused water.
With this in mind, here are our top three festive ham dishes!
1) Eaten straight out of the oven as part of a post (or pre!) Christmas day roast! Despite not offering the chance to show off your cooking skills like a beautiful bit of roast beef, a roast ham still ranks as a top roast dinner!
2) Enjoyed hot (or cold) carved up and popped into a nice baguette with lashings of mustard or piccalilli – divine!
3) Eaten as a part of a nice cold salad plate. Pile your plate high with ham, add lots of salad, and then top it off with potato salad and coleslaw.
