Leeds is blessed with many incredible indoor attractions. Few, though, offer a jaw-dropping tropical experience for children and adults alike! Tropical World is unique in that respect, boasting a number of cool animals you’ll struggle to find anywhere else within a few minutes’ drive of Leeds city centre.
The butterfly room houses, you’ve guessed it, butterflies, along with small crocodiles. There’s an aquatic area with some beautiful fish, including some piranhas, and a desert area featuring some very cute meerkats and a bunch of interesting reptiles. There are animals of all shapes and sizes for little ones to marvel at, and plenty of space in the viewing areas for everyone who wants to stand and stare at them!
Our little girl particularly likes looking at the meerkats in their enclosure. The meerkat enclosure is perfect for toddlers as it’s at their eye-line. Our little girl felt close enough to them that she demanded to tickle their tummies (although of course this wasn’t possible!).
At £6 for adults and free for under-5s, it’s particularly good for little ones with a curiosity of the world of nature. Located next to Roundhay Park, it’s also perfect for tagging onto a morning or afternoon spent wandering around the lake or the park in general. There’s also a picnic area and a cafe on-site.
The only gripe we have about Tropical World is that there appears to be no sort of annual pass, and it could learn from The Deep in Hull, where buying a ticket gets you unlimited entry for the rest of the year. That aside, this is the perfect location for a family day out in Leeds, especially when the weather turns bad!
