The Onslow Arms in West Clandon is, according to the pub’s website, “a smart community pub with a great range of beers and fresh food”.
We’ve been to the Onslow Arms twice, once before a wedding just down the road and once for a light Sunday lunch before driving back up north after a weekend with family.
On both occasions, we’ve been impressed by the food and service at the Onslow Arms. Last time we went, I had a crab sandwich with chips. The crab was delicious, full of flavour and packed generously into the brown bread. The chips were exactly how you want pub chips to be: thick, crispy, served piping hot, and fluffy on the inside.
On this visit, Kyle had bangers and mash. To be honest, the look of this dish gave me some serious food envy but Kyle thought the dish was nothing special for the price.
That is one thing to take into account at this pub. Given its location in deepest Surrey, it’s no real surprise that the prices are a little hefty at this pub (fish and chips weighs in at a hefty £13.50, burgers are pushing the £13 mark, and sarnies are around £8).
The Onslow Arms in West Clandon is a decent pub and it’s particularly nice on a sunny day when you can sit out in the sprawling beer garden. On cosy nights, the warm and inviting atmosphere is great to hide away in for a couple of hours with a glass of wine. Just be prepared to part with some of your hard earned cash in the process!
