Homage2Fromage Cheese Cafe and Bar: A First Look

Having brought you the news that Homage2Fromage Cheese Club are bringing their cheesy enthusiasm to the Merrion Centre in the form of a pop up cafe in the Lab Bar, we were lucky enough to be invited down last week for the opening night.

The very welcoming Vickie and Nick have taken H2F from a small club to an established, flourishing success story, culminating in the opening of this new cafe in the heart of Leeds. I had never previously attended an evening run by H2F before, but it didn’t take long for me to buy into the cause, diving headfirst into the philosophy of “taste first, learn later”.

Clearly if you don’t like cheese, this is not the place for you! As someone who adores cheese (with the exception of goat’s cheese – yuck!) I found the concept of this cafe exciting and innovative; there’s nothing else quite like it in Leeds at the moment.

The cheese itself is taken very seriously at H2F and it’s nice to see the focus stay on Yorkshire produce, with the Yorkshire Blue one of the real stars of the show on opening night. Some less common cheeses also featured, including Langres, and the cheeseboard menu really was extensive. Any fan of cheese will find at least a few selections to rave about.

If you want to mix things up a bit, there are some excellent hot and cold food options, including a divine fondue, cheesy pizzas, and (for the health-conscious) salads! Many of the dishes are set up for sharing, making this the perfect venue for a date night, or a meal out with a group of friends.

You can also enjoy a nice variety of alcoholic – and non-alcoholic – drinks at the Homage2Fromage Cafe. There’s a range of nibbles to go alongside the drinks on offer; I’d recommend the Tartiflette if you fancy something more filling to line your stomach for the night ahead!

With the cafe set to stay open for the next six months, time is of the essence. Make sure you head down to the Merrion Centre sharpish to sample some of H2F’s cheesy delights.
