We recently stumbled upon the Cheerful Chilli when we took our little girl for a walk in her pram near Otley. I’d heard good things about this vegetarian restaurant, which is hidden away in an unassuming roadside location, so we were pretty excited to try it out for ourselves.
The restaurant is located within a pretty converted farmhouse and, as such, has a really welcoming, homely feel to it. The menu is simple and not extensive; clearly the owners believe (correctly) that a few dishes done exceptionally is better than a lengthy menu done averagely.
I opted for a vegetarian lasagne and Kyle chose a falafel wrap. Being a weekday lunchtime, the restaurant was fairly quiet, although there was a family of four and a couple of friends occupying two other tables. It was clear that you could quite happily spend a whole afternoon here catching up with friends or spending quality time with family.
My lasagne was delicious. I love lasagne in general and it says a lot for the quality of this lasagne that I didn’t miss the meat! The side salad, so usually easily ignored, was a real highlight as well. Dotted with black olives and drizzled with a beautiful basil oil, it was a really fresh, healthy accompaniment to the main event.
Kyle was equally impressed by his falafel wrap. Packed full of flavour, the wrap was filling and moreish and again accompanied by a fantastic side salad.
We had hoped to have room left for cake, but alas the richness of our main meals left us unable to face pudding. We hope to return soon to sample some of the Cheerful Chilli’s sweet delights!
