Leeds gearing up for month of foodie celebrations

There is so much to look forward to for foodies on the Leeds food calendar, but one of the most exciting months of the year is almost upon us!

Starting on May 7th and running for a whole month, Leeds is going to be taken over by all things foodie.

Not only do we have the Leeds Indie Food Festival showing off the best independent food and drink outlets in the city, but we also have the Leeds Food and Drink Festival (the Indie Food Festival’s older and perhaps slightly wiser brother!) to look forward to.

There will be loads going on and we’ll try to bring you some highlights along the way, but here are just a few dates for your diary if you have any interest at all in the Leeds food scene!

  • Fancy some free Italian beer and foodie treats? Get yourself along to Ipsum Vinoteca, who are hosting a festival of Italian craft beer during the Leeds Indie Food Festival. The event is free and you don’t need to book in advance.
  • It’s always good to get the kids involved with food from a young age, so why not check out the pizza making sessions at Black Swan? They boast a real stone baked oven and a host of friendly chefs. This event is free but make sure you book in advance.
  • We’ve blogged before about Salvo’s being a fine option for coeliacs so it should come as no real surprise that they’re hosting a dinner to help celebrate Coeliac Awareness Week on the 14th and 15th May. Tickets cost £25, which, knowing how well fed you’ll be at Salvo’s, seems like a bargain.
  • The flagship event of the Leeds Food and Drink Festival will be The Yorkshire Post Food and Drink Show 2015, a completely free event that highlights the best produce available in the region. More than 100 exhibitors will hit Millennium Square over June 5th, 6th and 7th to present food demonstrations, give away samples of fine food and drink, and generally give us foodies plenty to get excited about!
